A1.Dr.Kalam's
father,Jainulabdeen,had neither much formal education nor much wealth
,but he was a wise man with a generous spirit,austere, tall and
handsome.
His
mother,Ashiamma was an ideal helpmate to his father.She too was very
generous and loved to feed people.

Abdul Kalam inherited honesty and self-discipline from his father and
faith in goodness and deep kindness from his mother.

lived in an ancestral house,which was built in the middle of the 19th
century.It was a fairly large pucca house,made of limestone and
brick,on the mosque street in Rameswaram.

Kalam earned money by selling tamarind seeds to a provision shop and
earned one anna daily.He also earned money by catching bundles of
newspaper thrown by his cousin from a moving train.

World War II there was a sudden rise in the demand of tamarind
seeds. A kind of emergency was declared and the trains halts at
Rameswaram was also suspended.

new teacher could not tolerate a Hindu priest's son sitting with a
Muslim boy.In accordance with the social ranking as seen by him,he
made Abdul Kalam sit at the back of the class.

Abdul Kalam and his friend went home and told their respective
parents about the incident,Laxmana Sastry summoned the teacher.He
told the teacher that he should not spread the poison of social
inequality and communal intolerance in the minds of innocent
children.He asked the teacher to either apologise or quit the
school.The strong sense of conviction conveyed by Laxmana Sastry
reformed this young teacher.

Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam ceremony,Kalam's family used to arrange boats
for carrying the idols of the lord.Also,events from the Ramayana were
