Q1.
A1.Orpheus
was the son of Apollo,the Sun God.He could enchant not only men but
also wild beasts with his music.Even trees and rocks were affected by
it and tried to move and follow the sounds of his starins.
Q2.
A2.Orpheus
and Eurydice were wandering through the flowery meadow when she
stepped on a poisonous snake.The snake bit her and she died at once.
Q3.
A3.Orpheus
played his lyre to charm the boatman who carried him across the
Styx,the river of death.At the gates of Hades,Cerberus,the dog who
guarded the gates,tried to pounce on him.But Orpheus immediately
started playing on his lyre,and Cerberus was so enchanted that he
listened motionless and Orpheus easily went across the gates.
Q4.
A4.Pluto
could not resist the pleading of Orpheus to get his wife back.
Q5.
A5.Orpheus
was overcome with anxiety for Eurydice.He wondered if she was really
coming behind him .He was afraid that she might have fallen, or some
terrible creature might have seized her.So he looked back over his
shoulder to assure himself that she was with him.But the moment he
looked back,Eurydice disappeared from his view.
